Waste is a poor use of resources. Think recycle and repurposing instead.
Ancient cultures were frugale about their use of resources. When a tribe killed an animal, every part was turned into a useable and practical benefit for the people. When plants or animals die, their remains always become food or nutirents for other life in their environment. Human beings have learned to "trash" so much in today's world that huge parcels of land are filled with un-biodegradable waste that will never disintegrate and often become death traps for living animals in our oceans and rural landfills. Changing our habits into more concienscious stewarts of our resources shows compassion for the coinhabitants of Earth and the planet itself.
Cell phones - Most cell phone parts can be repurposed and turned in for cash. Letting them go into our landfills means they will litter the planet indefinitely.
Shoes - Companies pay money for old tennis shoes so don't trash them, turn them in.
